Laughter truly is the shortest distance between people.

The Joy Space can provide a fun and engaging Laughter Yoga session for your festival or event.

Imagine this…

We stand in a circle and the ‘leader’ suggests that we pick up an imaginary smile string and bite down on it and tuck it behind our ears, drop our jaws and laugh. We begin to clap and rhythmically chant the laughter sounds, ho ho ha ha ha, soon followed by ‘very good, yeah’ affirmations to ourselves and others as we hold our arms skywards in celebration. We begin to move around and greet each other with laughter exercises that may feel a little awkward at first but it’s not long before our fake laughter turns contagious and we are all laughing heartily from our bellies. We are playing and laughing and moving with joyful excitement, connecting through child-like playfulness and spontaneity. And then it’s time to slow down and allow the cocktail of feel good chemicals to course through our bodies as we move into a conscious awareness of our breath and self-massage our bodies with imaginary laughter cream. Participants walk away relaxed yet invigorated, buzzing from such a positive social interaction.

Sessions normally run for between 30-45 minutes and can take place indoors or in the open air (weather dependent of course).

Laughter Yoga sessions encourage connection amongst participants, promote well-being and attract people to your event.

The sessions appeal to people of all ages and abilities.

There is no minimum and no maximum to the number of participants and the exercises can be adapted to take into account mobility issues or special needs.

The sessions can also reflect the theme of your festival or event and exercises can be tailored to spread your message.

  • Laughter Wellbeing Presentations & Workshops

The Joy Space provides creative and engaging Laughter Wellbeing Presentations and Workshops to organisations and community groups.

The aim of every session is to educate, explore and experience the four modalities of The Joy Space model (laughing, playing, moving and breathing) in an environment of fun and creativity.

Each workshop is tailored to meet your needs and objectives.

A typical presentation runs between 30-60 minutes and workshops between 60 and 90 minutes.

Presentations and workshops include:

  • An introductory session that shares with participants how laughing, playing, moving and breathing can positively impact their physical, emotional, intellectual and social health and well-being.
  • An experiential Laughter Yoga session accompanied by play, movement and breathing exercises that allow participants to experience the benefits of The Joy Space model first hand.
  • Tips and tools for participants to take away and incorporate into their everyday lives.

  • Laughter Wellbeing Classes

“We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit”

The Joy Space also provides the content of the Laughter Wellbeing Workshops (see above) in a weekly class format and these classes work especially well in Adult Learning Centres and Neighbourhood Houses.

These classes allow time for participants to build on their knowledge and resource base and meaningfully begin to integrate the practices of laughing, playing, moving and breathing into their everyday lives.

Regular classes foster sustained positivity and increased resilience and offer participants the opportunity to establish support networks and contacts within their community.

Inhibitions are lowered and connections flourish as trust begins to develop between the facilitator and participants and within the group.

The classes can be delivered in 90 minutes sessions over 4 weeks, 60 minute sessions over 6 weeks or over an entire school term.

Each class focuses on an element of our physical, emotional, intellectual or social health and well-being and the continuity of structure allows participants to become increasingly familiar with the exercises.

  • East Brighton Laughter Club



The East Brighton Laughter Club is a non profit community club that meets weekly and is open to ALL.

Laughter Clubs support community health, well-being and connection.

We love to welcome new members and encourage families to come and laugh together.

Join us for our weekly Laughter Yoga session.

Certified Laughter Yoga Leaders will help invoke your inner laughter, without jokes or comedy.

No yoga poses, just laughing exercises, rhythmic clapping, and breathing.

Laughter Yoga is a process that enables you to laugh even when you don’t feel like it.

It is an aerobic exercise program that anyone can do that is designed to relieve stress, to get the happy hormones flowing and connect us with our playfulness and inner sense of joy.

When: Tuesdays, 6-7pm

Where: Melbourne Montessori School, 741 Hawthorn Road East Brighton

Cost: By donation that goes towards club costs, such as public liability insurance
